Sew Cosy: Make Your Own Elasticated-Waist Trousers

£80.00
Date:

An introduction to dressmaking - make a pair of trousers you’ll actually want to wear.

Want to start making your own clothes but not quite sure where to begin?

Maybe you can already use a sewing machine but have never worked from a sewing pattern. Maybe you’ve sewn before but haven’t made clothes. Or perhaps you used to sew and would love to get started again.

Sew Cosy is a relaxed, supportive introduction to dressmaking where you’ll make your own pair of elasticated-waist trousers from start to finish.

And yes, complete beginners are absolutely welcome.

We’ll work through the whole process together, from understanding your pattern and cutting your fabric to constructing and finishing an actual garment you can wear.

PJs. Lounging trousers. Everyday trousers.

You choose.

Christmas PJs? YES PLEASE!

Where: Macc Art Space, Heapy Street, Macclesfield, SK11 7JB
Group size: Maximum 6 people per workshop
Price: £80 per person

What you’ll make

You’ll leave with a finished pair of elasticated-waist trousers, made by you - plus the skills to use the pattern and make another pair at home.

During the day you’ll learn how to:

  • understand and work from a sewing pattern

  • cut your pattern and fabric

  • construct your trousers step-by-step

  • sew and finish seams

  • make an elasticated waistband

  • add pockets if you want them

  • finish your garment ready to wear

Who’s it for?

You don’t need to be a complete beginner.

Sew Cosy is perfect if you’re completely new, can already use a sewing machine but haven’t made clothes, have never worked from a sewing pattern, or used to sew and want to get back into it.

Complete beginner, new to dressmaking or a little rusty - you are all welcome.

What to bring

You’ll need approximately 2.5 metres of light to medium-weight woven fabric.

Good choices include cotton lawn, shirting, quilting cotton, flannel, double gauze or light denim.

And don’t overlook a double duvet cover — they can be brilliant for this.

Think about how you want to wear your finished trousers when you’re choosing your fabric: something soft and cosy for PJs or lounging, or something with a little more structure for everyday trousers.

Full fabric requirements will be sent after booking.

If you’ve found something you love but aren’t sure whether it’ll work, send me a photo before the workshop and I’ll happily check it for you.

You can bring matching thread if you have it, but don’t worry if not — I’ve got plenty.

Please bring your own lunch.

What you DON’T need

A sewing machine!

Machines are provided.

There are only 6 people in each workshop, so you’ll have plenty of support and one-to-one help throughout the day.

Gifting

Yes - you can book Sew Cosy for someone else.

It’s a brilliant gift for someone who’s talked about making their own clothes, wants to get back into sewing, or would simply love a creative day learning something new.

Gift vouchers are also available.
